My DVD Collection (online)

The complete collection just keeps growing and growing.  One of the biggest factors being the 50% sales that Columbia House runs every 3-4 months.  I get to stock up on movies for $10-12 each.  Deep Discount DVD is my other favorite source.  Their pricing is usually the best and they build in the shipping charge so I don't fret about ordering enough discs to cover the shipping charge.

Movie Recommendations

I love to watch movies.  Especially DVDs on a widescreen and with great sound.  I have MANY favorites.  Everyone knows the Matrix and other popular movies are great.  I do too.  Here are some interesting titles that I like, which aren't as well known:

  • Conspiracy Theory - Action/mystery with Mel Gibson as a great paranoid and Julia Roberts as the straight lawyer.
  • Hudson Hawk - Tongue in cheek heist movie with Bruce Willis as a happy go lucky art thief.
  • True Lies - Arnold S. as a spy and Jamie Lees Curtis as the house wife that gets caught up in the escapade.
  • The Whole Nine Yards - Bruce Willis as a mob witness planning a heist while living in a suburban neighbor hood.  Very funny action movie.
  • Real Genius - A family favorite, the escapades of a bunch of brilliant minds in college.  Not your usual nerd film.
  • American President - Romantic comedy about a single president and his significant other.  Good chick flick.
  • Dave - Comedy about a guy (Kevin Kline) off the street that gets asked to stand in for the president.  Not slapstick, but very engaging.
  • Blast From The Past - Time shift with Brendon Frasier as a 35 year old who was raised in a bomb shelter for 35 years and is seeing the world for the first time.  "The sky!  Have you ever seen anything so beautiful!"
  • The Closet -French film about a guy about to be laid off who pretends to come out of the closet to save his job.
  • The Cutting Edge - A family favorite romantic comedy set against Olympic figure skating.
  • Overboard - Goldie Hawn as a rich heiress who looses her memory and is 'adopted' by blue collar Kurt Russell to take care of his kids.  A favorite for the whole family.
  • Groundhog Day - Bill Murray lives the same day over and over with all the experiments of what you could do if you knew what was going to happen every day.
  • Housesitter - Goldie Hawn moves into a vacant house owned by Steve Martin and tells all she is his new bride.
  • The Man Who Knew Too Little - A very funny adventure with Bill Murray as a unwitting foil to an attempted international plot.
  • Grosse Point Blank - John Cuzak as an assassin who returns to his high school reunion.  The funniest is as he tells everyone who asks his true profession and they laugh it off.

DVD Resources

The site that displays the movie details, linked above, is the Internet Movie Database.  On this site you can also set up a collection of your own movie.  I used it for quite a while but for my personal collection I have now switched to DVD Profiler.  It isn't as searchable on line as IMDB, but it has a great PC application that runs stand alone on your PC to manage your library while retrieving all the database info from a central site.

In DVD Profiler locally creates a database and can print a wide variety of customizable library listings suitable or coffee table browsing or library inventory.  A very well done application.  Additionally, you can post your library on their site for others to view.  Here is  my collection online.
